I already read this book in paper adn have it too in paper. But have it in my other place and needed to read it again.
I love Avalon, her personality, she is strong but in the same time full of fear to don't be loved for her. She want to create her own destiny in a time where women hadn't a lot of a choice !
She is also beautiful and seems to enthralled each men, but didn't really know it or in the matter of fact don't play with it. She has class and she is also extremely sweet and cherish on the cake she can "communicate" with animals.
Then there is Marcus, the most sexier character ever. He is strong, loving, smart...
In a point I love this story and the personnages and can't have enough of it. I just would like to have more and more of it and to have a sequel. Please Mme Abe could you write a sequel with them

A curse haunts the clan Kincardine and the Marcus Kincardine must find and wed his truelove in order to break the curse that has been holding his clan hostage for 100 years if not more. But even though he knows that his betrothed Lady Avalon d'Farouche is the woman for him...she is a strong minded lass who does not believe in the curse and refuses to marry Marcus...despite the fact that she is attracted to him in ways she never thought possible. Is there a way for her to give in and follow her heart without selling her soul to a story she doesn't believe in. Marcus will do what he must to break the curse and find a happy ending for his clan. The fact that Avalon speaks to his heart is a bonus and makes him work the much harder to bring her wild heart and spirit to heel without breaking that which he has come to treasure. But will Avalon allow herself to love the one man who represents all the things that have been hurtful in her life?

I loved this story. It is full of love and emotion and Ms. Abe will capture your attention with her well crafted characters and storylines. This historical romance will win your heart and have you looking for her other titles. Ms. Abe is an author I have added to my "must read" list.
Wow! I don't know how to better start this review than with that exclamation. I really enjoyed reading Avalon and Marcus's story. Here are two people who find themselves in an interesting situation and watching them accept their "fate" is fascinating.
By far the most complex of the characters is our lead female, Avalon. We see her as compassionate yet strong person who has many battles to overcome (both figuratively and literally). She fights her "guardian", her cousin, her lover, her fate and worst of all, herself. For 95% of the book she struggles with the question "who am I?". Woman, legend, lover, pawn. Marcus, on the other hand, learns about himself early on (prior to our story, though we get glimpses of what forms our hero's character) and accepts his position in life. He is a great lead male who uses what he's been given in life to better his clan and himself. Although Avalon can't accept it, Marcus loves her early on in the story and sticks by his feelings.
With witty dialogue and colorful secondary characters, this book is a joy to read from page one through to the end. I am not sure what this genre of books are called, paranormal?, myths and legends?, gifted?, fantasy?, or maybe Ms. Abe has created a category of her own. This book is different and keeps the imagination flowing. Be sure to pick up this one.
I bought this book when I accidentally stumbled on a book of hers at a thrift shop (The Smoke Thief) and I absolutely loved the flowing lyrical way Ms. Abe tells her stories. This one undoubtely is my second favourite of hers simply because it combines elements not really seen in historical romance fantasy , meaning that there's some magic involved,lots of tension and of course the romance. I love that Ms. Abe's characters (especially the hero) aren't pushovers nor are they annoying and neanderthal-like as they tend to be in medieval historical rimances . They understand their heroines and they complement them in a way that isn't seen in this type of genre and maybe this isvone of the second reasons why I devour Ms. Abe's books. Anyway, since everybody else already did a review on what the book is about, I wanted to share why I adore this book instead.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Uncommonly good. I was up until 3 a.m. reading this story; I could not tear myself away. This is one of the best romances I have read in years. My reader's cap goes off to you, Ms. Abe.
This plot can best be described as a supernatural medieval romance. The legend of this story lends the plot great momentum since it suggests that the hero and heroine are destined to come together. The legend is so pervasive and integral to this story that it is almost a third character. The story is made even better by the presence of a strong-willed and intelligent heroine whose misgivings and self-doubt are the central conflicts of this story. Wonderfully poignant romance. You will love this book.
Other wonderful romances with similar themes are Green Darkness by Anya Seton and Fallen Angel by Elizabeth Thornton
Got bored half way through. Kept going over and over about the legend too many times. Lacked enough substance to keep my interest. Same old plot as so many other books.
The used book arrived when promised and was in excellent condition. It was a great value for the money! I plan to buy more used Shana Abe books through , as offers great value and great service!
This story was very well done. The legend was interesting and the characters were relatable and lovable. The internal doubts and confusion of both were so human and so real that they felt like real people more than fictional characters. I lived it. Shana Abe is an amazing writer and I can't wait to read the next one.
